Hi. I'm Jamie and I run this blog.
This is the place I'm putting my thoughts on Politics, Education, Feminism, and Marriage. Most of all, I plan to address the issue of being young in a time that undervalues and unfairly criticizes its rising generation.
As a member of the "Me Me Me" generation, that last bit should hardly come as a surprise.
I'm a 2011 graduate of Reed College, with a degree in Sociology. I wrote my thesis on Veteran Health Care, and the unique problem of treating disease caused by military-classified origins. After graduation, I volunteered for a year of service with AmeriCorps, during which I worked in a Title I school in Washington state.
During the 2013-2014 school year, I worked as an Education Assistant at a public charter school. I 2013, I also worked as a research consultant for a not-for-profit consultancy with the mission to "promote human and economic development through the creation of
employee-owned businesses and community-based projects that save and
create jobs for low-income people."
Currently I coach gymnastics--the same job I had at fourteen, and attempt to sell my handmade quilts on Etsy. I also entered a Masters Public Policy program in fall 2014.
I'm a statistical anomaly, as I'm educated and non-religious but also married. My husband is a Firefighter, though he is currently employed as a Paramedic. Unlike many of my Millennial counterparts, we bought a house in April 2014. We are constantly engaged in a conversation about our roles in our marriage, and the difficulty [impossibility?] of achieving an egalitarian relationship in our society.
We have two dogs, Woof and Penny, and one cat, Meow.
I hope you enjoy your stay here,
Jamie
